Please join us to celebrate the launch of three new books on civic republicanism at a Demos event, 21st Century Britain: A Royal Republic?

Is Britain a 'republic disguised beneath the folds of a monarchy'? Or an outdated, elite-dominated monarchy? In their new books, Cecile Laborde, David Marquand, and Stuart White set out three manifestos for a new republicanism in Britain. While they don't agree on everything, Marquand, Laborde and White demonstrate that there has been renewed interest in the republican political tradition, and argue for modern republicanism as a potentially revivifying force in politics at home and abroad.

The authors will discuss the prospects for a revived civic republican project in a debate chaired by Richard Reeves.
